Heritage project / digitizing

The aim of this project is to digitize our patrimony (ancient objects and constructions) and to open it public. Such a digitization allows to safely sustain our history and to share it for educational purposes. As limited in means, we will use affordable means (see "solutions and means" section) to carry out our project.

The project

The aim of this project is to digitize our patrimony (ancient objects and constructions) and to open it public. Such a digitization allows to safely sustain our history and to share it for educational purposes. As limited in means, we will use affordable means (see "solutions and means" section) to carry out our project.

Solutions and means

While profesionnal devices are very expensive (reaching 100,000 USD for a 3D scanner), we will use affordable devices, the more accurately possible. We also plan to build real 3D scanner with a 720p (3MP) Logitech webcam.

Targets

We target less well-known sites in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes area : We also like to rummage in the flea markets to find interesting objects and documents to digitize.

    Articulated arms, also called Coordinate Measuring Machines, allow the best accuracy (millimeter magnitude), but the measurement process is slow and they are useable only for small object. They are mainly used in metrology, for example to check the quality and the shape of new manufactured products.
    This fablab project (http://fablab.ruc.dk/diy-digitizer/) proposes to build a cheap probing arm.
